Winter has well and truly arrived. It’s time to snuggle up and enjoy some healthy, warming food. We asked Emily Day, Food Development Manager at Organix, to share 5 ways to eat well this winter, for you, your little one and the whole family.
Start the day well
For an energy boost start the day well with a good breakfast. Porridge is a warming and delicious option for all the family. Try adding some ground almonds, as they give a natural creaminess you could make the porridge with water rather than milk for a dairy free option and sprinkle with cinnamon for some extra warmth! If you fancy something different you could just top with fresh or dried fruit.
Eat the seasons
Food is at its best when it’s in season so try to get as much as you can on the menu at home. Try Brussels sprouts and white cabbage in December, carrot and kale in January, and leeks and savoy cabbage in February.
A colourful plate
Lots of different colours of fruit and vegetables on their plate will introduce little ones to new flavours and ensure your family enjoys a range of tastes and textures. A colourful plate helps provide all the nutrients needed to stay strong and healthy, from vitamin A to zinc.
Have fun with food
Getting creative and playful is a great way to let children explore food and try new foods. Try making some simple fun winter plates using fruit, veg and Organix finger foods, like a chilly snowman or festive Christmas tree. See more ideas at www.organix.com/recipes

Eating what’s in season this winter can also be better for your budget. A basket of fruit and veg bought in season can be as much as a third cheaper than the same basket bought out of season.
