Stretch marks in pregnancy – Can they be prevented?
A staggering 8 out of 10 women will get stretch marks during pregnancy. They are an everyday problem, affecting all skin types, developing on thighs, breasts and most commonly on the tummy. The question is, can stretch marks be prevented?
During pregnancy, hormones soften fibres in the skin in preparation for labour, making it more susceptible to tears as the skin stretches. Think of a windscreen splitting downwards after a small crack appears from a flyaway stone. Stretch marks form in a similar way. A small red dot will appear in the skin and then, already weakened, the skin will eventually tear downwards, at right angles to the body’s natural skin lines.
These tears appear as red lines that fade slowly after childbirth to leave pale lines on the skin. They never disappear completely and can cause deep physical and emotional issues. Even with today’s body positive attitude to skin imperfections, women can be emotionally scarred forever, when left with a tummy full of stretch marks.
What can be done once they have formed?
Sadly, once formed, there is very little that can be done to remove stretch marks. Creams and gels don’t work and laser treatment, or cosmetic surgery, is expensive and doesn’t completely remove them.
There are many creams and gels on the market that claim to lessen the appearance of stretch marks as they form, however most admit that they cannot prevent or remove them. In fact, one of the UK’s most recognised stretch mark products admits on their website that “ although Bio-Oil is formulated to help improve their appearance, it can never remove them.” This is verified by the independent Cochrane Report which reported, following trials involving 800 women, that “We found no high-quality evidence to support the use of any of the topical preparations in the prevention of stretch marks during pregnancy”.
So is there something that can be done to prevent them?
We’ve got great news ladies! At last, a product has been launched that has been clinically proven to help to prevent stretch marks.
It’s called Secret Saviours and it’s revolutionary. Women will no longer have to silently suffer with stretch marks as their mothers and grandmothers have before them.
Secret Saviours is a stretch mark prevention system consisting of a Bump Band, Day Gel and Night Cream, that worn daily, secretly gets on with the job of preventing stretch marks, whilst mums-to-be get on with the job of growing their baby. The innovative, patented Bump Band is printed with specially arranged pads which gently grip the skin, diffusing tension across the tummy. These unique pads were created by medical scientists to make it much harder for a stretch mark to tear along its natural route downwards, at right angles to the body’s skin lines.
The comfy Bump Band is accompanied by the refreshing Secret Saviours Day Gel which keeps the pads in place. And the Secret Saviours Night Cream deeply moisturises the skin at night, leaving the skin soft and supple.
In recent independent trials Secret Saviours saved 82% of women from getting stretch marks.
